To become “trauma informed,” is to begin to recognize that people often have many different types of trauma in their lives. Often trauma “survivors” or those struggling with PTSD triggers, may be re-traumatized by well-meaning therapists or other healthcare workers. These are not just clients; being trauma informed also includes recognizing that therapists, administrative staff, supervisors and others involved in the healthcare industry, may have many different types of “unhealed” trauma. This presentation will offer an overview of trauma, complex trauma, and generational trauma. Participates will learn the basics of trauma informed care, including an overview of the five pillars: safety, choice, collaboration, trustworthiness, and empowerment. Participants will then discuss and explore what diagnoses or populations benefit best from a trauma informed care approach. There will be ample time for case study discussions and small group actives, while learning in a safe and trusting space.
