Motivational
Interviewing (MI) began with conversations in 1982 between William Miller &
Stephen Rollnick concerning their respective research with Substance Use/Abuse.
Forty years later MI is used by multiple disciplines in their work with clients
with mental health diagnosis, medical issues in addition to Substance Use
Disorder and Addictions. This training
will offer a broad overview of Motivational Interviewing, Stages of Change and
their applications across disciplines and diagnosis. Topics covered include underlying Spirit of
MI, the four Processes, micro-skills of OARS (open-ended questions,
affirmations, reflections, summaries) and Change Talk. Great for beginners in MI and a nice
refresher for others.
