This workshop will help enhance your understanding of the unique differences and challenges facing therapists when treating LGBTQ+ clients with alcohol, chemical and other process addictions. Participants will learn foundational ethics for treating LGBTQ+ clients struggling with addiction; the importance of cultural, social, and spiritual aspects of addiction treatment; and other ethical treatment considerations. Participants will gain more awareness of unique conflicts of interests that exist for LGBTQ+ addiction therapists, the difference of inappropriate behavior and violating behavior in an ethical dilemma and gain more awareness of creating a therapeutic relationship that honors the LGBTQ+ client and not just creating a “safe space”.
