This presentation will provide an overview of the appropriate terms and concepts being used today to describe sexual orientation or sexual attraction, especially in the LBGTQ+ community. The presentation will begin with a brief overview of the history of the modern LBGTQ+ community, including definitions of important historical terms such as "Friends of Dorothy" and "Daughters of Bilitis". With an historical perspective in place, participants will gain insight into newer, more inclusive concepts and labels in use today to describe gender identity, gender expression, biological sex and sexual orientation and appropriately navigating use of these terms with LGBTQ+ clients. Participants are encouraged to bring questions and current case issues for discussion.
